Simon Izaak Lopez was booked into the Kaufman County Jail on May 14, 2015, at 6:50 p.m. He was arrested by the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department and charged with online solicitation of a minor. Bond is set at $10,000. Lopez is described as a white male, date of birth June 17, 1978, with brown eyes and black hair, standing 5’ 9” tall and weighing 160 pounds.
Lopez was a high school teacher with Forney Independent School District. According to published reports, he resigned that position following his arrest. Lopez taught Spanish and was also an assistant girls’ basketball coach and has been a teacher for nine years but was in his first year with FISD.
Lopez has not yet been indicted by a grand jury. Depending on how he is charged, the offense could be either a second or third degree felony. Online records indicate the offense is alleged to have occurred on April 23, 2015.
Also, a portion of the online solicitation of a minor law (Section 33.021, Texas Penal Code) has been held to be unconstitutional – specifically, the language contained in section (b)(1) regarding an actor who “communicates in a sexually explicit manner with a minor.”
Much like a portion of the improper photography law which has also been held unconstitutional, the remainder of the law continues to be in effect.
